UP-TET (Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test) is a state-level eligibility test conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board (UPBEB), with the current cycle administered by UPESSC, to determine the eligibility of candidates for appointment as teachers for classes 1 to 8 in Uttar Pradesh. It has two papers: Paper I for those who intend to teach classes 1 to 5, and Paper II for classes 6 to 8; a candidate may take either or both. Each paper is a 150-mark test of 150 multiple-choice questions in 150 minutes, with one mark per correct answer and no negative marking. Paper I covers Child Development & Pedagogy, Language I, Language II, Mathematics and Environmental Studies (30 questions each). Paper II covers Child Development & Pedagogy, Language I, Language II, and either Mathematics & Science or Social Studies (60 marks). The paper is bilingual in Hindi and English and is grounded in the NCERT and UP Board curriculum. Candidates who score 60% or more qualify (55% for reserved categories), and the UP-TET certificate is valid for a lifetime.

For Paper I: senior secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed / BTC) or equivalent, as per NCTE norms. For Paper II: a graduate degree with a relevant teacher-education qualification (B.Ed / D.El.Ed as applicable). Exact eligibility and category relaxations are set by UPBEB/NCTE; confirm against the live UP-TET information bulletin.
