UP Special TET 2026 is a restricted eligibility test, not an open one. As of 5 September 2026 only two groups may apply: teachers already serving at the primary or upper primary level in Uttar Pradesh state government, local body and aided schools, and CWSN special educators engaged on contract or daily wage who hold an RCI recognised qualification.

Special educators on contract or daily wage must not be older than 60 years as on 3 November 2026. Fresh graduates, coaching students and general aspirants fall outside this advertisement no matter how strong their qualifications, because the exam certifies people who are already teaching.
No. UPTET 2026 was the open eligibility test held from 2 to 4 July 2026. Wire copy carried in late August 2026 put registrations at 19,94,661, and over 13 lakh candidates qualified when the result was declared. UP Special TET is a separate, restricted exam on the same paper design. Clearing UPTET does not admit you to it, and missing UPTET does not either.
Two groups are asking this question right now, and both deserve a straight answer. If you are among the UPTET 2026 qualifiers (80.07 percent cleared at the primary level and 71.85 percent at the upper primary level), you already hold the eligibility this exam grants, so there is nothing here for you unless you are also a serving teacher. If you missed the July window, Special TET is not a second chance; your next opportunity is the following open UPTET cycle, and the Supreme Court has asked states to hold TET roughly twice a year.
Because of a Supreme Court ruling on the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009. In Anjuman Ishaat-e-Taleem Trust v. State of Maharashtra, decided on 1 September 2025, the Court held that teachers appointed before that Act who still have more than 5 years of service left must clear a TET to stay in service.
Dismissing review petitions on 29 May 2026 in State of U.P. v. Anjuman Ishaat-e-Taleem Trust, it extended the compliance deadline to 31 August 2028. Special TET is Uttar Pradesh acting on that direction.
That is why the eligibility list reads as it does: a compliance exam for people already in classrooms, run alongside the regular open cycle rather than in place of it, and it is also the route by which contract and daily wage CWSN special educators regularise their eligibility.
UP Special TET 2026 uses the UPTET design unchanged: 150 multiple choice questions worth 150 marks in 150 minutes, that is 2 hours 30 minutes, with 1 mark for each correct answer and no negative marking. You sit the paper for the level you teach, either primary for classes 1 to 5 or upper primary for classes 6 to 8.

The qualifying bar matches UPTET as well: 60 percent, which is 90 of 150 marks, for the general category and 55 percent, about 82 marks, for reserved categories. Since nothing is deducted for a wrong answer, no question should be left blank.
Applications are filed only on upessc.up.gov.in, and OTR comes first: without a completed One Time Registration you cannot even open the Special TET form. The window runs from 5 September 2026 to 4 October 2026, and any mistake can be corrected until 8 October 2026. Keep your service record and RCI or CRR details ready.

Being straight about the gaps beats a padded guess. As of 5 September 2026 UPESSC has published the dates, the fee, the eligibility and the pattern, and little else. The admit card date, the exam city and centre list, the result timeline, and the exact wording on how long a Special TET certificate stays valid are all still awaited.
No vacancy figure has been issued either, and none should be expected: Special TET certifies eligibility rather than appointing anyone, so the numbers circulating on aggregator pages are not from the advertisement. Read the advertisement on upessc.up.gov.in yourself before paying the fee.
