MPSC does not publish a question-wise subject split. In the real 2019-2025 MPSC prelims papers we analysed while building our question bank, general studies dominates the paper: our own working split is roughly 80 general studies questions, 10 arithmetic and 10 intelligence test questions. There is no separate Marathi or English language section in Prelims; languages are tested in Mains Paper-1.
Yes. Section 6.3 of the official Revised Scheme of Examination dated 20 May 2026 applies 25% negative marking in MPSC Group C: 1/4 of a question's marks is deducted for every wrong answer, in Prelims as well as Mains. Marking multiple answers to one question counts as a wrong answer, and unanswered questions attract no deduction at all.
In practice, a wrong answer costs 0.25 marks in Prelims (1 mark per question) and 0.5 marks in Mains Paper-1 (2 marks per question). Blind guessing is punished, so skip the questions you cannot narrow down at all and bank your time on the ones you can solve.
MPSC Group C Mains uses two papers per post. Paper-1 is a common language paper: Marathi with 60 questions for 120 marks plus English with 40 questions for 80 marks, at 2 marks per question. Paper-2 is post-specific, mixing general studies, arithmetic and reasoning, with the weightage varying across posts such as Clerk-Typist, Tax Assistant and AMVI.
| Mains Paper-1 section | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Marathi | 60 | 120 |
| English | 40 | 80 |
| Total | 100 | 200 |
In the 5 real Mains Paper-1 papers from 2018 to 2023 that we analysed for our PYQ-pattern mocks, the Marathi section is grammar-dominant: roughly 50 of the 60 questions test grammar topics such as samas, sandhi, vibhakti, alankar, prayog, kaal, mhani and vakprachar, while around 10 come from prose comprehension passages. The English section is easier than SSC or banking English, led by error spotting, fill in the blanks, reading comprehension, idioms and sentence improvement.
For Paper-2, prepare general studies with the same Maharashtra emphasis as Prelims and keep arithmetic and reasoning sharp; the exact mix depends on the post you choose, so read the scheme for your post in the advertisement.
Within MPSC Group C 2026, the Clerk-Typist post requires a typing skill test in addition to the written stages, per the selection process in our verified pattern reference. The full sequence is the combined Prelims (screening only), then the post-wise Mains (marks counted), then document verification, with the typing skill test added for Clerk-Typist candidates.
The exact typing speed and language requirements are specified post-wise, so read the Clerk-Typist section of Advertisement 017/2026 on mpsc.gov.in before you apply.
