Conducted by Indian Air Force
AFCAT (the Air Force Common Admission Test) is a national-level examination conducted by the Indian Air Force twice a year to recruit graduates as officers into the Flying branch and the Ground Duty (Technical and Non-Technical) branches. The test is a single online paper of 100 questions worth 300 marks in two hours, with three marks for a correct answer and one mark deducted for a wrong answer. It is set only in English and has four parts: General Awareness, Verbal Ability in English, Numerical Ability at the matriculation level, and Reasoning and Military Aptitude. Candidates for the Ground Duty Technical branch additionally take the Engineering Knowledge Test. Candidates who clear the written test are called for the Air Force Selection Board interview, followed by a medical examination, and the final merit decides commissioning.
Candidates must be Indian citizens meeting the age, education and physical standards set by the Indian Air Force. Broadly: for the Flying branch, a graduate (any stream) with Mathematics and Physics at 10+2 or a BE/BTech, within the specified age band; for Ground Duty Technical, an engineering degree in the relevant stream; for Ground Duty Non-Technical, a graduate or postgraduate degree per the branch (for example management, education or law). Confirm the exact age, marks and stream conditions against the live AFCAT notification.
