Conducted by Karnataka State Police, DGP Recruitment Wing, Bengaluru (recruitment), with the written examination conducted and evaluated by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA)
Karnataka Civil Police Constable (CPC) recruitment by the Karnataka State Police - 3,991 posts in the 2026 drive, against 3,90,715 applications. A single written examination of 100 objective questions for 100 marks in 90 minutes, offline OMR, one mark per question with 0.25 deducted for a wrong answer, and a minimum of 30 marks to qualify. The paper is one undivided General Studies booklet covering general knowledge, science, geography, history, the Constitution of India, the national freedom movement, mental ability and moral education, printed in Kannada and English on the same page. The written exam is the only stage that counts toward merit: the Physical Standard Test and Endurance Test that follow it carry no marks. Note one 2026 change that costs marks: the OMR sheet now has a fifth circle meaning 'not attempted', and a question left entirely blank is penalised 0.25 unless that circle is shaded. IMPORTANT ABOUT THE TABLE BELOW: the real paper declares NO sections and prints no per-subject counts, and several published 'section tables' for this exam (a 25-mark language block, a 20-mark English block) describe questions the paper does not contain. The split shown here is the measured subject WEIGHTING of 700 questions across the seven real Civil Police Constable papers we read, which is what our mocks reproduce; it is a guide to what to study, not a claim that the booklet is divided.

The first Civil PC paper conducted by KEA rather than by the KSP recruitment wing, and the mix moved with it. General Studies took 85 of 100, mental ability 15, split 10 reasoning and 5 arithmetic. Inside General Studies the heads were polity 14, general science 13, history 10, geography 9, current affairs 7, science and technology 5, sports 4 and a 5-question ethics block at questions 56 to 60. Karnataka content took 9 slots, spread across geography, history, art and culture and state polity rather than sitting in one place. Two architectures dominate: Match List-I with List-II, about ten times in the paper, and multi-statement items where four options each name a subset of three to five labelled statements. Seven questions carry a figure, which is a fourfold rise over the KSP era: a figure series, a counting-triangles item, a number puzzle drawn inside a figure, a line chart, two Venn diagrams and an outline map of India. Options print as 1, 2, 3 and 4, and there are exactly four of them; the fifth circle on the OMR sheet means not attempted and is never a distractor. Twelve booklet versions exist (A1 to D3), made from four option rotations times three question orders, so any one booklet is skewed even though the key is flat across all twelve. The published key gave one question two accepted answers and no grace marks. Difficulty is SSLC core with a PUC ceiling and roughly 60 per cent of the paper is pure recall, down from about 80 per cent in the 2019 to 2021 papers.
The Residual paper of the same day as the Kalyana-Karnataka one, and the two agree exactly on shape while differing on order. General Studies 85, reasoning 10, arithmetic 5, the same split. But this paper opens with the mental ability block at questions 1 to 15, where the Kalyana-Karnataka paper puts it at 31 to 45, which is the clearest evidence that the paper has no fixed section order even though topics do cluster in long runs. Heads were general science 17, polity 14, history 11, geography 10, current affairs 6, ethics 5 at questions 26 to 30, and Karnataka content in 7 slots. The polity run from question 31 to question 44 is fourteen consecutive items on the Constitution. Current affairs is hyper-recent, dating from the months immediately before the exam, which is the most expensive content on the paper to keep fresh and the least worth stockpiling. Five questions carry a figure: a nine-shape classification grid, a number puzzle inside a polygon, a cube net to be folded, a bar chart, and an outline map of Karnataka shaded for soil type. Options print as 1, 2, 3 and 4 and there are exactly four. Twelve booklet versions, four option rotations times three question orders. The published key gave grace marks on two questions and had no dual-accepted answers. Roughly 60 per cent of the paper is pure recall; the rest turns on multi-statement elimination and match grids.
The last Civil PC paper run by the KSP recruitment wing before KEA took over, and the most arithmetic-heavy of the seven papers read. General Studies 85, reasoning only 4, arithmetic 11. Polity took 20 slots, with fourteen consecutive items from question 83 to question 96. Freedom movement took 10, which is its highest in any paper and far above its mean of about 3; this paper opens on it at questions 1 to 3 and closes on it at questions 97 to 100. General science 11, economy 8, geography 6, current affairs 6, Karnataka content 10. There is no ethics block at all, which makes this the one post-2023 paper that carries none. Notably it carries ZERO figure questions: every reasoning item is verbal or numeric. Options print as a, b, c and d and there are exactly four. Five booklet series exist, A to E, and they permute question ORDER only, so all five share one answer-letter distribution. That distribution is far from flat: b was keyed 36 times out of 100 and d only 20. IMPORTANT for anyone reading the official key: the FINAL key is a DELTA, not a full restatement. It lists five changed questions and ends with a note that the rest match the provisional key of 1 March 2024, so the provisional key linked here is the one that carries all 100 answers. Of those five, three were re-keyed, one was given two accepted answers and one was given grace.
The paper where the ethics block first appears, and that makes it the pivot of the whole series. Six of its 100 questions are ethics or conduct: four on public-service ethics and two genuinely police-specific, one on acceptable conduct after arresting an accused person and one on money changing hands during a verification visit. Every paper before this one carries zero such items and every paper after it carries three to six, so December 2023 is the dated boundary. The rest of the paper is the most General Studies heavy of the seven read: 91 of 100, leaving only 5 reasoning and 4 arithmetic. Polity took 23 slots, its highest anywhere, and general science 20, with an almost unbroken science run from question 81 to question 100. Economy 7, science and technology 6, Karnataka content 10. Current affairs fell to 3, its lowest in any paper. Multi-statement items dominate the architecture here more than in any earlier paper, which is where the rise in difficulty comes from. One figure question, a pattern-completion figure series. Options print as a, b, c and d and there are exactly four. Five booklet series, A to E, permuting question order only, so one answer-letter distribution covers all five: c was keyed 32 times and d only 20. The FINAL key is a DELTA listing just two changed questions, one re-keyed and one given grace, with a note that the rest match the provisional key of 15 December 2023; the provisional key linked here carries all 100 answers.
