Conducted by Staff Selection Commission (SSC)
SSC Junior Engineer (JE) recruitment by the Staff Selection Commission for engineering posts (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical) across central government departments. Selection is a two-paper computer-based test plus Document Verification and a medical examination. Paper 1 (200 marks, 2 hours) is objective and qualifying, with General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, and a 100-question General Engineering section in the candidate's discipline, and a 0.25 negative mark. Paper 2 (300 marks, 2 hours) is an objective test of 100 discipline-specific technical questions carrying three marks each with a one-mark negative, and it decides the final merit.
A diploma or degree in the relevant engineering discipline (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or as specified for the post), within the prescribed age limit with relaxations per government norms. Exact criteria vary by post and are set in the SSC JE notification.
Conducted approximately annually. The last cycle ran Paper 1 in 2024 and Paper 2 in 2025. Product targets the next cycle; treat dates as tentative until the official SSC notification.
